Initial thread post (first week Forum is open). The first line in the initial thread post must state the topic title and prompt selected for the post thread. With a minimum of 350 words, be sure to address all aspects of the chosen prompt; don’t just regurgitate what is in the text―research the topic on the internet and in the FAU electronic libraries, and include an APA-compliant reference/citation. FORUM V INSTRUCTIONS APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY Choose ONE of the prompts below for your Forum topic (see the General Discussion Forum Instructions, and the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric, for a complete understanding of what is expected and how your Forum participation will be assessed). ATTAINING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE. What kind of changes could you make in your life that would be good for the environment that would have little or no impact on your happiness? Discuss what social psychological phenomenon could be used to effect wide-scale changes in other people’s behavior in these areas. EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY. Investigate mistaken eyewitness testimony, and the social psychological phenomena that contribute to this tragic behavior (tragic because misidentification has resulted in the incarceration of many innocent people). In your discussion, be sure to describe the problem (i.e., how big is it?), what has been done to address the issue, and what else can/should be done within our legal system to reduce the possibility of misidentification [Psychology in Action at end of text]. DEINDIVIDUATION ONLINE. Discuss deindividuation in general [CH 9], why it is particularly likely to occur in online interaction, what effects online deindividuation could have, and how websites might be able to prevent the occurrence of deindividuation on their site. GROUP EFFECTS THAT GIVE RISE TO ATTROCITIES (HOLOCAUST OR MAI LAI MASSACRE). Discuss the social psychological phenomena that contributed to a SPECIFIC horrific event (e.g., the Holocaust or the Mai Lai massacre). Be sure to describe whichever event you choose to focus on, in light of the psychological phenomena you discuss. How might we use our knowledge of these social psychological concepts to reduce the likelihood that history repeats itself? STUDENT CHOICE. Start a conversation on any area where psychologicalmethods and findings have been used to solve practical problems of human behavior and experience (do NOT recite something already introduced in the text). Students who choose to do this MUST include at least TWO (not one) credible citations/references that support the new topic introduced, to earn Credibility points in the grading rubric.
