The topic of my essay is “CEOs wages are high without reason”. Students will write a 1500-2000 word (5-6 page, double-spaced) argumentative essay in which you take a stance on an arguable issue. This might be your field of study (i.e. advocating for a specific disciplinary measure in early childhood education based on research about psychology and discipline of toddlers and young children). Make sure that you are taking a stance and going into depth. You should be using college-level research throughout the essay to defend your view. This will also require you to compare your response to other research. Situate your response to other articles and books on the topic. There are three ways you can situate your position *Agree, but with a difference. What are you adding to the debate if you do agree? *Disagree and say why *Blend of agreement and disagreement. Why are you in this position? Where do you agree and disagree and why? You should synthesize information by building on information from source to source and even using multiple sources per paragraph at times to cover ideas in detail. Think about what you need to inform your audience about as you make your argument. Imagine that your audience is a professional one that may not agree with you but is open to being persuaded. Use at least 6 sources. At least 3 of those must be peer-reviewed articles. Have a clear thesis statement in the introduction that clarifies the main idea and controlling idea of the essay. Preview your main points. • Use an appropriate blend of summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting. Quote rarely and only where needed. Use MLA format, complete with in-text citations and a Works Cited page. Paper has a clear focus and thesis. Paragraphs all maintain a clear focus and synthesizes several sources per body paragraph to show for a subpoint that supports the thesis.
