Students are to read Achille Mbembe, “Decolonizing the university: New directions,” Arts & Humanities in Higher Education 15(1) (2016): 29-45 and write a 750-word reflection based on engagement with the following questions: 1) what is the relationship between the production of knowledge about Africa to decolonization, 2) what is [and/or can be] the role of the University. There are no additional sources required but student responses should contain a thesis statement. This is not an exercise in summary. Students are expected to form and defend their opinion. Students are encouraged to be creative in their responses.
