Requirements: Choose a facet of the book that intrigues you. It can be a technique used by the author, the role of a particular character or setting, the chronology, the role of gender, the historical context, race, class, etc. Then, formulate a question you have about this that you want answered. This essential question will be your thesis. You will then find two to four articles on your topic. Next, you will write a four to seven page paper in which you incorporate the ideas of at least two other scholars from the articles you read. You might use these ideas to reinforce your claim by showing how they support what you are stating or you might bolster your claim by refuting the adequacy of the scholar’s ideas. It is very possible that you will agree with some of what the scholar is saying, but not all of it.
