The primary goals are to (1) analyze a firm and its context and (2) formulate and address the implementation of an appropriate strategy. Use the Case Analysis Tools to help with the analysis. Be concise. Stay focused. A detailed analysis of the firm’s history, for example, is unnecessary. This project requires you to evaluate a firm. You can select any Fortune 100 for the assignment (the top 100 firms listed here), provided (a) you have not worked for that firm and (b) the firm is not the focus of any course materials listed on the Course Schedule (e.g., you cannot choose Amazon, General Electric, Target, etc.). You must conduct your own research, especially with respect to the firm’s recent history, performance, and current opportunities and challenges. A research paper meeting the following criteria is necessary to complete this assignment: • Contains the material in the document WA Components (see attachments). • Conforms to the grammar requirements in the document WA Grammar (see Attachments). • Meets the formatting requirements below. • Includes at least three additional references (not counting course materials). Be creative and think critically and include reasons (and possibly data) to support your ideas. Response Format Points are deducted for papers that do not conform exactly to this format. • Papers must be four to five pages long (excluding tables, graphs, and references). The same penalties apply to papers that are too long as to those that are too short. • Papers should be in 12-point Times New Roman font. Include page numbers. • Papers should be double-spaced with standard tabs (i.e., about 8 characters) at the start of each new paragraph. Use standard one-inch margins on all four sides of the page. • Headings for each major part of the paper (the items in bold in the WA Components file). • Tables and graphs should be placed at the end of the document but referenced in the text. • Cite references in the text (as you use them). Include either a reference list or footnotes. • Papers should be submitted on Canvas as Word files. Other Notes • Do not inflate or reduce the length artificially (e.g., adding unnecessary spacing or lines). • Quoting material extensively is discouraged, but limited quotes are acceptable if you identify them (using quotation marks) and cite them accordingly. • We use Turn-It-In to check for plagiarism. Points are deducted for plagiarism, depending on its severity. In extreme cases, the student may be referred to University officials. • You may want to have someone outside of this class read your paper for clarity, etc. • Given the precision and depth required, the limited space available, and the strict grammar requirements, you may need multiple drafts to finalize your papers. • Be creative and think critically. Include reasons (and possibly data) to support your ideas. • Use the materials in the document Case Analysis Tools to conduct your analysis. Grading • WA Components (60 points) • WA Grammar and Response Format (20 points) • Critical Thinking (20 points)
